The American metric system
do you think that America should switch to the metric system, i personally think we should because it's so much easier, the Americans would be mad for a couple of weeks and then they will get used to it and forget all about it. the only hard thing about switching is that it would cost billions of dollars to replace every speed limit sign in the nation
Re: The American metric system
haha, it kinda sounded like you're defending the standard system. But no, we should have it would mess up the education system and it would cost a lot of money to replace speed limit signs. The standard system is easy to use, too, so why should we switch?

Re: The American metric system
they shouldnt only because of the trouble it would cause. i lived in the US for 4.5 years, learned the stnadard system, moved to canada, and learned the metric system easily. in metric, everything's 10/100/1000 etc. in whatever part. in standard, its all facked up. i tried to re-acquit myself with it one time, and was confused as hell. the only reason it seems easy is cause ur used to it if u live in the US (i moved to the US when i was 5, so i started off fresh).
but if it caused no trouble, i would encourage the use of the metric system in the US.
on a side note, why does america have to be so different? different english spelling than canda/UK/australia or wherever english is spoken, different temperature measurement, and different mathematical measurements. get with the freakin program!

I disagree with replace our system with the metric system, not that I have anything against the manner, but rather based upon the fact that we are in so much debt, we shouldn't be concerned on changing the system.

Exactly. Great thought. There is seriously no need to change anything other than going green or whatever everyone is talking about now-a-days.

Re: The American metric system
We like our system and are very comfortable with it. It is in all our our text books and we use it in every aspect of our lives (street signs, football fields, schooling, etc.). You have to weigh the costs and the benefits. If you do that, noone in their right mind would argue on the side of changing the system. America has far too much going on to even consider this idea. The costs are way more than the benefit. Thus, America keeps it's current system in place.
