Black Holes
This should be an interesting debate, because as far as i know scientists do not have a definite answer to this question: What is a black hole exactly, and what does it do, and where does it take objects that go into it. Any thoughts?
Re: Black Holes
Haha. There was a debate about black holes in one of my tests that I had to take this year... It is a very interesting topic that I barely know anything about.
I remember that if planets are falling into the gravitational pull of the black hole, the planet orbits it compared to being sucked in.

Re: Black Holes
i saw something about black holes on apocalypse how, a discover channel special on how the world could get destroyed.
black holes are formed from dead stars, and are extremely hard to detect. they can be as small as dust. when they suck in planets, a planet will start to break into several billions of molecules. so if we encounter a black hole, well literally have other molecules pulled apart.

umm...don't worry in about 10 million years, we're supposed to collide with a black hole about 10000 or something times larger than ours.
Basically, they are pretty sure and have good evidence that a black hole is something that has so much gravity that light can't even escape. They noticed starts orbiting around this invisible ...thing. Sometimes it starts to suck in some of the stuff around it (starts, planets, etc), then stops, then starts, then stops, etc, over a long period of time. I forgot how it was formed.
I remember watching a show about this a few years ago with my ol' grandaddy lol

Re: Black Holes
that is a fun question.. since not even light can escape a black hole, telescopes can't observe what really goes on there.. here's my thoughts... when a black hole comes to be (when gravitational collapse starts after a star has depleted all of it's nuclear energy), it turns "black" and begins sucking everything in.. black holes are very large (one reported to be 100 million times the size of the sun), so I think that when objects are sucked in, they break up into smaller molecules due to the force of the black hole, then gradually over time, those molecules are released (very slowly) as the black hole releases energy, some of what it has obsorbed gets released as well (because Einstein has taught us that mass is just highly condensed energy), thus, as a black hole releases energy, it releases "mass" (which may just be some of the molecules that it gained when it obsorbed another star or planet...

were gonna proabably develop better technology to even move off earthin 10 million years, look were we've gotten in the last 50 years

Re: Black Holes
I'm just gonna make up whatever comes to my mind.
These "Black Holes" are billions of microscopic organisms that bend light to form "black hole" lookalikes. These organisms are a special bacteria that feed off of dead skin cells. These orbit things because they are easily pulled by gravity and they are light. It is also good excersize. Without excersize, they could grow "fat" and sluggish. If even 1/10 of the organisms got too "fat", the black hole could die out in a matter of seconds. These have not been named, so I call them protophylic material. These are beneficial to our Milky Way, due to an excess of iron oxcide.
The end.

Re: Black Holes
i didnt want to read what everyone else wrote but here is stuff i know about them
How there formed:
1. A star dies
2. It explodes
3. Then after it explods, it MIGHT collaps back on itself, creating a black hole
What it is:
i dont know much about it exactly but
1. it'll suck things into it and crush them to adams in the matter or miliseconds
2. after some time the black hole gets smaller, and smaller, and then just *poof* its gone (im not sure what causes this though)

Been paying attention in Science class, Jyo?
They do have a farily definite answer.

They don't 'go' anywhere. They get sucked in and are ripped apart, thus being broken down into atoms.

Jake, scientists don't have a definitive definition of a black hole, is what i meant to say.
Re: Black Holes
Oh, but yes, they do know what it IS.
