Does time really exist?
I was having a debate with somebody on another
forum and it led to the discussion of time, and whether it exists. I
thought it was a good philosophical question, as it could lead to a lot
of different opinions and thoughts. So, here it is!
Does time
really exist, and if it does, did it exist before man? If it did, what
was it? Animals and other life don't care about time, only Humans do,
and only Humans ever will...
It may be something mankind named,
but is it real? Humans found a way to measure it that part is clear.
Did we create time or simply find a way to measure it? Scientists
theorise about time travel, but is time actually real? Is time travel
impossible because time doesn't really exist?
Do Humans' have a
real sense of time without a clock? is the use of the sun and the moon
a factor in it if we do? in our heads we can estimate the time but
using our last interaction with a time-piece.
Hmmm . . .
I
think without time, everything that ever has been, is, and ever would
be, would exist in the same moment, thus destroying the universe -
bizarre but I think it could be true. Time allows separation of
separate entities. Without time, nothing could come before or after, it
would all be here now.
I think time exists.
You?

Re: Does time really exist?
I just thought: Is it possible that time never actually existed until man created a unit of measure for it? Like when the sun rises and sets, we call that a day. But before, when man was created, was it even anything, or was it just an action? I believe that time exists, whether or not there are units for it. There was a past. We're in the present. There will be a future. In between these three planes is time; you can't go from the present to the future without it.
Something funny I once thought about when I was a kid; I watched this one show where this guy once stopped time and everything froze. But wouldn't time still move, even if everything around you stopped? You're still imagining seconds going by, even though nothing is moving.
So in a way, time may be like sound; it only exists if there is someone to interperate it.
Dang I had one more argument in mind, but I forgot it.

it exists, and humans have found a way to measure it. but for how long it has existed, we may never know. on time travel, i dont think you can travel backwards.but theres a very complicated way to go forward. you have to travel at the speed of light. while it seems like a month for you, it could be a year for someone else (or something liek that, saw it on TV and dont remember exactly)

Meh, he was already confused before I even posted.
And on kareljanis' note, I believe that time travel is impossible. There's this one (haha) anime that talked about time travel, and how time is like animation, where each time period is like a frame, and each frame, or time period, is separated by a certain period of time. But it's an anime, so it's probably incorrect.

I think time exists, but humans have made up the speed of time (sec, minutes, hours, years, decades)
